M25 PROVIDES FUNDING FOR COOLING CENTERS FOR HEAT EMERGENCY- EXTENDED THROUGH FRIDAY
(CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ)--Dr. Robin Weinstein, President of the M25 Initiative, today has announced an extension of emergency funds availability to churches and nonprofits who agree to serve as a “cooling center” during the upcoming Heat Emergency through Friday, July 29, 2016.
“Churches should be a refuge to those suffering spiritually and physically,” said Weinstein. “With the oppressive heat continuing through the week, we encourage our church community to open their doors to their neighbors by offering them a place to cool off and cold water. To help our churches assist others, the M25 Initiative will provide funding to churches and nonprofits who will serve as a cooling center.”
The M25 Initiative is the funding agent for the Cumberland County Code Blue Coalition that operates volunteer-based and grassroots managed emergency warming centers during the winter months.
Weinstein, who also chairs the Cumberland County Code Blue Coalition, continued, “Cumberland County is the poorest county in the state and many residents may not have access to air conditioning. This emergency funding will provide churches with the financial resources to be the hands and feet of Jesus by putting faith into loving action. We are called to love our neighbors, and this is one way to fulfill this command.”
Churches and Nonprofits are eligible to receive a reimbursement of up to $15 per hour of operation during daytime hours between 8 AM- 8 PM. A maximum of two churches/organization per municipality may receive funding for overlapping open hours during the designated period (minimum of two consecutive hours). Cooling centers need to provide access to filtered or bottled water, but no other amenities or activities are required.
The M25 Initiative is not running this as a program, but providing financial support to churches and organizations that decide to operate as an independent cooling center and do not receive funding from other sources to host the operation.
Cooling Center information is on the M25 Initiative website and the Code Blue Hotline at 1-888-410-3973.
Churches and/or Nonprofits can learn more and sign-up to help at http://www.m25initiative.org/cooling-center-program.html. Tax-deductible donations may be made to the M25 Initiative on their website or by mail M25 Initiative, 31 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
